Aj Vy uvažujete nad tým kedy je nutné a kedy nie použiť slovíčko „that“ v nepriamej reči? Tu je zopár pravidiel o používaní tzv. reporting verbs:
- Použitie resp. nepoužitie slovíčka „that“ závisí aj od toho, či sa jedná o formálny, alebo neformálny prejav:
- v menej formálnej komunikácii sa to slovíčko“ that“ môže vynechať. Napr: Many parents believe children should avoid junk food.
- vo formálnej komunikácii je potrebné slovíčko „that“ vo vete mať. Napr: Doctors believe that children should avoid junk food.
- Po určitých tzv. „reporting verbs“ sa slovíčko „that“ nepoužíva nikdy. K týmto slovesám patria: describe, display, evaluate, give, investigate, present, summarize. Po týchto slovesách vždy nasleduje tzv.“noun phrase“.
- Napr: Chart 1 describes seven parental influences on children’s health.
- This article gives 8 community influences on children’s health.
- This report summarizes the influence of fast food on children’s health.
- Najbežnejšie „reporting“ slovesá po ktorých sa „that „používa sú: say, assume, show, suggest, complain, announce, argue, add, declare, explain, imply, mention, point out, propose, recommend, remark, report, state, write, warn
- Napr: A recent government report suggests that obesity is a problem for all ages, but it is most significant among children.
- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services believes that people should read food labels carefully when shopping.
- The most recent report points out that obese children are targets of social discrimination.
